Avoid these 5 moving mistakes
Everyone makes moving mistakes. And during the stress of a move, it’s only natural that in the hustle and bustle of it all, you may neglect something or even make a bad choice. We don’t want that to happen to you, so in an effort to help you make a successful move, we’ve highlighted five moving mistakes many people make when moving — and how to avoid them:- You forgot to make a moving budget: It’s imperative to make a budget to estimate your moving expenses. Failure to do so will leave you wondering if you have enough money to afford to move. Make a list of all the expenses you anticipate, and make sure to get at least three written estimates from reputable moving companies. You’ll sleep better a night knowing you have your expenses covered.
- You forgot to tell your mover about everything: Before a mover arrives in your home for an estimate, make sure you have a list of every room that needs to be estimated. Many homeowners forget about attics/crawlspaces, sheds and other rooms that aren’t thought about often. Remembering them at the last minute — after you received your estimate — will only result in a higher price.
- You hire a mover without securing in home estimate: All highly qualified movers will want to prepare an in home estimate for you. If any mover gives you an estimate over the phone, it’s best to move on. An in home estimate is the only way to accurately gauge your moving costs.
- You forget to read all documents carefully: In order to truly understand what is included in your moving estimate, what your responsibilities are and what you can expect, you must read all the documentation a mover gives you. If you are unsure about anything, make sure to ask questions and get thorough answers. You don’t want any last minute surprises!
- You pack your home without a timeline for moving: This is one of the worst mistakes you can make. You should have a clear idea of when you are going to move and pack your house accordingly. Waiting until the last minute is a recipe for disaster.
